In this quarantine-era project for an art class about surveillance, I was driven by one central question: How can I find new ways to connect to a homeland if I can not physically be there?
Over the course of 7 weeks, I listened to and recorded the broadcasts of five Puerto Rican radio stations, twice a day for 3 minutes each.
Using these audio clips and imagery from Google Street View, I constructed an audiovisual representation of my experiences and biases as a Diasporican.
This project eventually inspired the name and subject of my weekly radio show, diaspoRico, in which I explored the history, experiences, and influences of the Puerto Rican diaspora across musical genres.
